~Mission Trip~

Dear family and Friends,
              I have never thought of myself as a traveler. In fact, last year, when I decided to go to Brooklyn, N.Y. for college everyone laughed and said, “There is no way you are going to make it.” At first, I too questioned my decision. However, I was reassured because I received such a peace about it. I just sat back and smiled to myself because I knew that I was raised with a strong Christian faith and to be an independent young lady. One thing was certain, “God is within her. She will not fail.” (Psalm 46:5)                                            
                As it turned out, I thrived in Brooklyn and I loved shinning my little light and making others question what was different about me. While attending LIU Brooklyn I discovered that my major, nursing, was no longer a passion for me and I planned to make a change to Early Childhood Education the following year. Shortly after deciding to change my major, I received a text message, from my favorite missionary sister, jokingly stating that she needed a preschool teacher and that I should just quit school and move to Honduras for six months. As I read it, I thought HA…No way. I had already bounced around from college to college and from state to state as a university student and I had no desire to go from country to country. But God had other plans. He continued working on me and, as it turned out, that “joke” was exactly what He had planned next for my life.


Double Brace:                   I am now preparing to live with my sister and her family, in Honduras. Their ministry, Legacy of Hope Foundation, is dedicated to helping the least fortunate in Honduras. They support a thriving church plant as well as a feeding program for 100+ impoverished children. They live in Santa Rosa de Copan where they have established a foster home for abandoned babies. I will be providing an extra helping hand in the home. I will also work as an English teacher both in the ministry’s preschool and to the Honduran staff of House of Hope. While serving in Honduras I will be working toward my degree, in early childhood education, through Liberty University Online.
       Volunteers must raise their own funds. My expenses will include food, water, electric, housing, travel, and teaching supplies. Since I am not a resident of Honduras I must make a trip back to the states shortly after Christmas to renew my visa. I will then be purchasing a ticket to return to Honduras in mid-January to finish my term. I will also be purchasing and collecting preschool supplies here in the states, before both departure dates in October and January, such as construction paper, hot glue sticks, dry erase markers, pencils, crayons, etc.

             I never fully understood what God had planned for me, by bouncing me around, but I am beginning to see the pieces of his plan being placed together. I was recently in my brother’s kitchen when I saw a sign that put everything into prospective, “God does not call the qualified he qualifies the called.” I am very excited for this next phase in my life and I truly know that our God is an awesome God. He will have all of my needs met. I am so thankful for everyone who stands behind me either financially or faithfully in prayers.
